I am a new owner of a used 96 Savage with about 7800 miles. One thing I have noticed is that there is a lot of gear noise while decelerating escpecially in 4th and 5th gear. It sounds fine while coasting level and while accelerating. I have tried going to 20W-50 instead of the 10W-40 oil as per the owners manual for hot weather - California. It only improved it slightly. Am I looking at worn bearings in the transmission?
I have looked at this site and have seen lots of useful information. It answered my questions concerning difficulty in switching into 5th gear and noisy speedometer cable.
I like my bike alot, it rides nice and has plenty of power.

Mike
